Electronic Drive Development Engineer
– Ostergrens Elmotor Ltd

We are looking for an Electronic drives development engineer who can complement our existing in house skills and fit in with our company culture. In our Dorset based design engineering team, the position needs to be filled by an experienced degree qualified candidate who is motivated to succeed in a challenging and exciting customer driven global company. The role primarily calls on meticulous electronics hardware design and application skills but also necessarily includes some software work with embedded processors.

Ostergrens Elmotor is a subsidiary of Allied Motion Inc. which has application, design and manufacturing facilities in America, Europe and China.  Ostergrens Elmotor focuses on supplying motion control solutions which satisfy the exacting requirements of OEM and general market customers.  Applications include power steering, mobile applications as well as other commercial and industrial applications. Complementing the mechanical and software engineering team in Stockholm, the focus of activity in the UK location is to specify, design, develop and validate innovative electronics to control motors as well as provide technical support to OEM customers in the EU region.

    We expect the successful candidate to have the following qualifications, skills and experience, these should be readily visible from the application:

  • minimum BSc/BEng in an Electronics/Electrical Engineering Degree.
  • at least 2 years employment in motor electronic drives design roles and ready to build on that experience.
  • familiar with standard Microsoft office programs.
  • excellent skills in English.
  • progressing to the requirements of membership of the MIET.
  • knowledge of electronic manufacturing and product testing techniques, to ensure the most effective production implementation of designs.
  • analogue and digital circuit design.
  • power electronics design covering SMPS/drive development up to 3kW.
  • experience with some of the following areas:

    C software development code, microcontroller code development
    Embedded processor application to communication, power electronics control
    Safety critical applications
    Mobile and automotive electronics drive applications
    PCB CAD development (Altium Designer, Autodesk Inventor)
    UL / LVD and other safety standards
    EMC directive application and testing
    Mathcad , matlab development environments
    Labview development environment

    A commensurate salary is available depending on the candidate’s skills and previous experience. We offer flexible working hours around a core time with an annual holiday entitlement of 25 days. Pension contributions and contribution towards Gym membership are also available.  Training will be available to develop the relevant skills whilst building on a firm foundation.
